Jogia Cha Masalo.

 

I still vividly remember the first time I had Masala Cha when I was a very young kid… my world changed that day! It was as if I had been given an elixir of the gods!

Since that day Masala Cha was the only Cha I would drink. If you gave me plain or black tea… I would very shortly ask for just plain water and would not touch the tea.

My Ba (mom) figured out quite quickly what the case was and henceforth never made just plain tea for me!

You could say I got spoilt.

Ba would make Cha Masalo for me every now and then but when it finished I’d have to make a trek to the nearest Indian Grocery Shop to get my fix of the brown powder, until she made me some more…

I have tried so many different Cha Masala’s over the years, however found each one to be lacking in something or numerous things!

They were, not in any order:

  • Freshness
  • Taste
  • Lack of proper ingredients
  • Stale ingredients
  • Overpowering with the taste of one or two ingredients
  • Mass produced
  • Generic Taste
  • No consistency in flavour
  • I could go on…

So, you see I had a problem. I needed proper masalo every time.

Hence, I started experimenting with different spices myself

Being a Cook and Single Malt Enthusiast, with a well-developed palate, I understood flavor.

I understand how different spices need to come together coherently to deliver a taste like no other.

I started with the 5 base spices experimenting and tweaking flavour, but something was missing… I added 2 more spices… still missing something, then I discovered the magic combination of the 9 different spices in my pantry and started tweaking that.

Lo and Behold I discovered the magic combination that I now present to you.
